NY Lawmaker Calls For Expanded Access To Hepatitis A Vaccine

ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) — A New York state lawmaker says the state should make it easier for members of the public to become vaccinated against Hepatitis A.

Sen. Brad Hoylman tells The Associated Press that he will introduce legislation allowing pharmacists and nurse practitioners to administer the vaccine.

The Manhattan Democrat says it's a step other states have already taken in order to ensure people can get immunized. He says a recent uptick in Hepatitis A cases in New York shows the need for expanded access to the vaccine.

He noted that pharmacists and nurse practitioners can already administer vaccines for diseases, including the flu and meningitis.

Hoylman plans to announce the legislation Friday. It will be taken up by lawmakers when they reconvene in January.
