GOSHEN, N.Y. (AP) — An upstate New York man on trial for the fatal shooting of an accused rapist he was trying to turn in to police continues to wait for a jury decision.

An Orange County Court jury has deliberated for seven days in the trial of 46-year-old David Carlson. They are due back in court Monday.

The Middletown Times Herald-Record (http://bit.ly/2ePhwG2) reports that Judge Robert Freehill rejected a defense request Thursday to declare a mistrial.

Carlson claims he fired in self-defense in October 2013 as he held Norris Acosta-Sanchez at gunpoint so a neighbor could call police. Prosecutors said Carlson was the aggressor.

Supporters of Carlson say he's more a victim than a vigilante.

Carlson faces charges including second-degree murder and first-degree manslaughter.
