Officials from the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority were at the State Office Building in Utica on Friday to launch NYSERDA's summer EV Ride and Drive initiative.

The initiative supports Governor Cuomo's climate change agenda, mandating an 85 percent reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by 2050.

Adam Ruder, Program Manager for Clean Transportation at NYSERDA, says Charge NY is the state's initiative to expand the purchase of electric vehicles and installation of EV charging stations throughout New York.

Ruder says there are currently about 40,000 EV's on the road in New York state.

Attendees at the State Office of General Service's "Music in the Park" event had the chance to take demo rides in electric vehicles.
