Utica, NY (WIBX) - Yesterday, following the conclusion of an emotional trial involving the shooting death of a law enforcement official, the Oneida County Board of Legislature voted unanimously to rename the building  in honor of the fallen officer, Deputy Sheriff Kurt B. Wyman. Wyman's name and legacy is being memorialized in many ways throughout the county, and this is another way the law enforcement community and elected officials are honoring the former Marine who died in the line of duty.

Wyman was shot and killed by Christian Patterson during a domestic dispute in the Town of Augusta in June 2011. The incident led to a 6-hour stand-off with police. Yesterday, Patterson was sentenced in Oneida County Court to serve three consecutive life sentences for firing the fatal shot that claimed Wyman's life. Wyman's wife, Lauren, gave birth to their second child 18-hours after he was killed. Wyman served in Iraq before joining the Oneida County Sheriff's Department.
