CHILI, N.Y. (AP) — Fire officials in western New York are investigating a blaze that destroyed a home.

WHAM-TV reports crews responded to the Chili home around 8 p.m. Tuesday. Authorities say the fire started in the basement of the home before it spread and reached the roof. Officials say cold temperatures and slippery conditions challenged firefighters.

Authorities say the five people who were inside the home at the time of the fire were able to escape unharmed.

The cause of the fire is unclear. An investigation continues.
