GARDEN CITY, N.Y. (AP) — A Long Island mall is getting rid of its new holiday display after listening to a wave of negative customer feedback.

Newsday reports the president of Simon Property Group says a "new Santa experience" at Roosevelt Field was intended to deliver a modern and interactive event for families.

But David Contis says the faux-glacier displays at several of its malls will be replaced with traditional decor, including Christmas trees.

Roosevelt Field unveiled the new backdrop last week that included a sparkling faux glacier, but no Christmas tree. Some shoppers criticized the nontraditional display.

A spokesman says Simon plans to roll out a new display with traditional decorations at Roosevelt Field later this week.

The glacier displays were also set up at five other Simon malls.
