State and local officials gathered today to unveil new historic sculpture panels along the North-South Arterial, including four just east of the Boilermaker finish line.

There are 12 historic panels in all along the arterial.

The panels depict the history of transportation along the Chenango Canal and the impact that transportation has had on the region.

Oneida County Executive Anthony Picente said, “It’s great to see these historical panels unveiled just in time for the 40th installation of our community’s signature event —The Boilermaker Road Race. Along with our county residents, visitors from all over the world will have the opportunity to see these sculptured pieces which depict our region’s storied transportation history.

The $66.5 million North-South Arterial project is expected to be completed later this summer.
