PAWLING, N.Y. (AP) — Authorities say one teenager is dead and two others are recovering from injuries suffered when their car crashed on a rural road in eastern New York.

The Dutchess County Sheriff's Office says 17-year-old Kevin Taylor of Holmes was driving on Route 292 near his home when he crashed around 12:30 a.m. Sunday near the Dutchess-Putnam county border.

Deputies say the teen lost control of his vehicle on a curve, spun around and hit a utility and several trees.

Taylor was pronounced dead at the scene. Two other teens riding with him were treated at Danbury Hospital in Connecticut for non-life-threatening injuries.

Deputies say unsafe speed is believed to be the main cause of the crash. They say drug or alcohol use do not appear to have been involved.
