PITTSFORD, N.Y. (AP) — Authorities say an ex-convict is back behind bars after he stole beer from a gas station and led police on a chase that went through several western New York towns.

The Monroe County Sheriff's Office says 54-year-old Elbert Davis and a 30-year-old woman stole the beer around 11:30 p.m. Wednesday in the town of Henrietta, south of Rochester.

The clerk called police and gave them a description of the car, which was reported stolen in Rochester last month.

The car had been spotted in the neighboring town of Brighton, where authorities say Davis drove the car at officers before speeding away.

State troopers pursued him into Pittsford, where Davis was caught after a foot pursuit.

The charges against him include reckless endangerment. He is expected to get a public defender.
