UPDATE: October 31, 2013 10:50am National Grid says that power has been restored to all but approximately 1,000 customers in the area.  They are working to bring back power to those homes before 12:00noon.

What is being described by the Utica Police Department as a "large scale power outage" is being reported.

The primary area affected in East Utica, east of Mohawk Street.  Mohawk Valley Community College is affected as well.

More than seven thousand customers are without power according to National Grid.  A spokesperson says power should be restored by 12:00noon.

The UPD is cautioning drivers to use extra care as traffic problems are expected.
