Community College could become free for qualified students if a plan by President Obama becomes reality.

The President wants the Federal Government to pay for 75% of Community College tuition with states picking up the rest of the bills for students who maintain a certain grade level.

Assemblyman Anthony Brindisi says the plan would create the American Technical Training Fund and would compliment the Career and Technical Education pathway he has advocated for.

He says Students who follow the CTE pathway to high school graduation would have the opportunity to continue their education for two years at a Community College without having to take out high-interest loans.

“Although I will be waiting for more specifics on this new program, I believe it has the potential to help close the middle skills jobs gap and better prepare students for higher-wage, high-demand careers. This plan would help train low-wage workers for jobs in fields like advanced manufacturing and information technology, where skilled workers are in great demand."

The President is expected to announce more details of the plan at a Community College in Tennessee on Friday.
