Reasons Behind Child Deaths Explored on Southern Tier Close Up
The weekly, local public affairs program, Southern Tier Close Up delves into an uncomfortable topic in order to provide very important information for parents, grandparents and the caregivers of children in Broome County.
Speaking on the July 15 and re-airing July 22, Broome County Health Department Director of Public Health, Rebecca Kaufman and Child Fatality Review Team Coordinator, Karel Kurst-Swanger go over the results of the study that examined 83 case of children aged 0-17 from 2007-2016.
Kaufman says the study found a majority of child deaths are preventable with a top priority placed on safe sleep practices for infants.
