The Rome Police Department has a new tool to fight crime.

Officials have unveiled "The Viper", an armored car and surveillance vehicle.

Police Chief Kevin Beach says the vehicle is equipped with a state-of-the art camera system.

Beach says vehicle will be deployed to different neighborhoods that have been identified as trouble areas.

"The Viper" is expected to hit the streets in a about week.

Senator Joseph Griffo secured $15,000 in state funding so the Rome PD could retrofit the former Brinks truck.
