The Price Chopper on Black River Boulevard in Rome was briefly evacuated on Wednesday. Rome police responded to the store after a store employee called about an unattended suitcase left in the front vestibule.

According to Rome Police Captain Tim Bates, the suitcase was left alone close to the bottle return machines at the store. The building was evacuated and State Police bomb detection dogs were called to the scene. It was determined that there were no explosives and the suitcase was found to be empty. As a result of the incident the store was shut down for a few hours.

Police believe an individual had brought the suitcase filled with cans and bottles to the store to return them for the deposit earlier that morning and when he finished left the suitcase behind. At no point was there any danger to the public, but precautions were taken to ensure the safety of all. Captain Tim Bates says, "The store employees did exactly what they were supposed to do. If you see something, say something."
