Schumer To Fed: Designate Oneida County High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area
Should Oneida County be designated as a High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area by the Federal Government?
Senator Charles Schumer thinks so.
Schumer will be at the Utica Police Department on Tuesday to call for the designation after heroin-related arrests in the City have risen by 60% since 2013, and local poison control center calls in Oneida County involving heroin have doubled in four years.
He says designating Oneida County as a High Level Trafficking Area would improve coordination between law enforcement on all levels and provide additional resources including equipment and technology to make fighting heroin and other drugs in county a lot easier.
Schumer is scheduled to address the UPD and media shortly before noon Tuesday.
