While the 4th quarter ran down on Monday Night Football, I was consumed by YouTube's live feed of Space X's Dragon docking with the International Space Station. Incredibly, NASA supplied a multi-camera live feed of the entire operation.

It was amazing. to watch!

NASA's SpaceX Crew-1 Mission on the “Resilience” Crew Dragon is carrying Mike Hopkins, Victor Glover, Shannon Walker, and Soichi Noguchi, to the International Space Station.

The docking was scheduled for approximately 11:00 p.m., about 28 hours from the time they launched from Kennedy Space Center. At 10:50 p.m. ET, the Space X Dragon crew decided to delay docking by six minutes because the sun was setting, causing distracting shadows making visibility difficult. The crew was waiting for the sun to completely set, allowing for night vision technology to accurately dock with the station. The space station circles Earth every 45 minutes so the space station gets a sunrise or sunset every 45 minutes. At the time of docking, the sun was beginning to set. Both the Dragon and the International Space Station were traveling approximately 17,500 miles an hour above Earth. The crew was not performing the docking mission, as the Dragon was being flown via auto-pilot (autonomous).

The docking occurred at 11:01 p.m. ET about 252 statute miles over Idaho. They first made what is called a "soft capture" which allows the Dragon to connect with the docking mechanism, which is followed by a "hard capture" which secures the Dragon with hooks for an "air tight" fit with the International Space Station. It will take about an hour for the hatch to open, allowing the passengers to enter the space station. A welcoming ceremony is scheduled for about 1:40 a.m.. A spacewalk is scheduled for Wednesday.

Once the astronauts enter the space station, it will be like walking into a house the size of a six-bedroom house. It has six sleeping quarters, two bathrooms, a gym, and a 360-degree view bay window, according to NASA.

NASA streams live programming from the space station regularly from their website. I have to say, it's amazing how much you can see just by logging on to the NASA website. It's also pretty amazing to see how 7 people from different countries can all live in one place and work together with one common purpose. It would be nice if we could do that in Earth.
