The San Antonio Spurs will make history this season by adding the first woman assistant coach in NBA history.

Six-time WNBA All-Star Becky Hammon, who will retire as a player at the end of the WNBA season after 16 years, will join the reigning champions for the 2014-2015 season according to ESPN.com.

Hammon has spent the last eight seasons with the San Antonio Stars, where she leads the franchise as the all-time leader in assists(1,112) and three-pointers made(493).

She was named one of the WNBA's top 15 players of all time in 2011, and ranks seventh in WNBA history in points, and fourth in assists.
