State Police have identified the man who was shot and killed by a trooper on Tuesday night in the Town of Lee.

Police responded to a home on Golly Road for a possible overdose, where they found 24-year old Tyler Johnson face down on a bed with his hand clinched underneath his chest.

Family members told police that Johnson was possibly suffering from a seizure.

As Trooper Robert Annarino and EMS workers began to roll Johnson over, police say he began to physically resist.  An Oneida County Sheriff’s Deputy then arrived on scene and attempted to assist.

Police say Johnson lunged at Annarino with an 8-inch knife that he had been hiding underneath his body.

The preliminary investigation revealed Annarino gave several verbal commands for Johnson to drop the knife, but he failed to comply.

Authorities say Annarino, fearing for his safety and the safety of EMS personnel, fired at Johnson, striking him several times.

Johnson was taken to Rome Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

An autopsy will be conducted by the Onondaga County Medical Examiner's Office.
