Syracuse, NY (WIBX) - It's official; the Syracuse Orange are saying "sayonara" and will be taking their skills to the ACC next year.

The announcement was made this morning, after Syracuse was able to work out a deal with the Big East to leave a year early.

The college will pay the Big East $7.5 million to leave, but no longer has to wait the mandatory 27 months. They are eligible to terminate their membership with the Big East on July 1, 2013.

Syracuse's athletic director, Daryl Gross, says "We are excited about both our final season in the Big East and our long-term future with the ACC."

Last September, both SU and Pittsburgh had stated their intentions to leave for the ACC. Pitt's departure date, however, is still unknown.

As for the Big East, Temple will be re-joining the conference entirely in 2013, while Boise State and San Diego have been added for football. Navy is also joining for football-only in 2015.
