Tioga Central School District Schedules a Budget Re-Vote
The Tioga Central School District plans a re-do on its budget proposal that was rejected May 19. The school board plans a new budget vote June 16 since the plan did not get the super-majority needed to pass with a 30% tax increase.
If voters again reject the proposed spending plan, the district would have to go to a contingency budget that could result in over $900,000 in spending cuts. That amount equals the budget shortfall the board tackled in negotiations.
53% of residents voted in favor of the proposed budget, but, since the plan would have increased the tax levy more than the state mandated 3% tax increase cap, a supermajority of 2/3 was needed for passage.
