Two Utica Police cars were involved in separate accidents on Friday afternoon, sending one of the cops to the hospital.

The department says officer Shannon Aquaviva was responding to a call at around 3:15 Friday afternoon when she lost control of her vehicle and struck a light pole on Pleasant Street, then a cement retaining wall.

Police say two good samaritans called in the accident on her police radio and helped officer Aquaviva, who was reportedly knocked unconscious from the crash, UticaOD reported. She was stable but was taken to the hospital for an evaluation, police said.

Another officer on patrol who was responding to the scene of that accident was then involved in a two vehicle crash on Genesee Street. No one was hurt. Both incidents are still being investigated.
