A Utica man is facing charges under New York's SAFE Act.

Utica Police say 24-year old Derek Miller was shooting a semi-automatic rifle in a wooded area of Proctor Park near Redfield Avenue.

Police say Miller fired multiple rounds and claimed to be target practicing.

Offficers found the rifle and spent shell casings, along with live rounds.

Miller was charged with criminal possession of a weapon, reckless endangerment and discharge of a weapon within city limits.
