Utica Man Sentenced In Death Of Girlfriend’s Infant Daughter

A Utica man will spend 20 years in prison for the death of his girlfriend's seven-month old daughter.

20-year old Jason Nieves was sentenced on Tuesday in Oneida County Court.  He'll also serve five years of post-release supervision.

Nieves pleaded guilty to a first-degree manslaughter charge in April.

Emelina Sanchez died of head injuries at a Syracuse hospital in January.

Nieves had been babysitting the child.
