The Utica Police Department will re-implement its Tactical Unit starting on Monday.

The Tactical Unit was dismantled three years ago due to financial concerns.

Chief Mark Williams says the unit will take proactive measures to target all levels of criminal activity in the city.  Williams says the Tactical Unit will also work with other specialized units within the agency to further criminal investigations by providing necessary uniformed support.

Mayor Robert Palmieri says “As the City’s financial condition has improved, we are now able to re-implement this important unit, which will be a great tool in helping law enforcement combat crime and enhance quality of life.  I am confident this unit will produce great results under Chief Williams’ direction.”

Williams says re-instituting the Tactical Unit was a top priority for the UPD.
