Members of the Utica Police Department will undergo cultural competency training in April.

The training will be conducted by the Mohawk Valley Resource Center for Refugees, thanks to funding from the M&T/Partner's Trust Fund at the Community Foundation of Herkimer and Oneida Counties.

MVRCR officials say the training is intended to provide police with the cultural knowledge and tools needed to effectively interact and serve Utica's diverse community.

They say that will positively affect the relationship between the UPD and the refugee and immigrant community.
