Two Utica Police officers have been honored for apprehending a person who appeared to have a gun at a school basketball game.

Kerry Carville and Michael Curley have been named Utica Post 229's Police Officers of the Year.

Carville was off-duty at a basketball game at Donovan Middle School when she spotted someone carrying a handgun.

Curley, who was working as a school resource officer, helped Carville take the suspect into custody.

The gun turned out to be a BB gun that was identical to a 45 caliber handgun.

Carville and Curley have been members of the UPD since 2001 and 2006 respectively.
