A Herkimer native will head the Utica Public Library.

Christopher Sagaas, who's currently Head of Branch Services for the Central Albany Public Library, will become the library's new director.

Sagaas will succeed Darby O'Brien, who's retiring in June.  O'Brien has been with the Utica Public Library for 27 years.

Kelly Walters, President of the Utica Public Library Board of Trustees, said, “The board unanimously approved the recommendation of the search committee to hire Chris. We all think he is the right person to lead the library into the next chapter of its proud history.”

Saagas said, “I am well aware of the reputation of the library and its standing in the community, and I expect to add to its legacy in the years ahead.”
