Winter parking rules are about to go into effect in many local municipalities.

Starting December 1st, motorists in Binghamton and Johnson City must park on the odd-numbered side of the street on odd-numbered calendar days and even side on even days from 5 p.m. to 5 p.m. the next day. The alternate parking rules run until April 1.

Parking of vehicles on all Vestal Town and County streets is prohibited between 2 and 6 a.m. through March 31 and in the Town of Union, there is no parking on any road after a 2 inch snowfall.

Town of Union Highway Department officials add that depositing snow in roadways is prohibited and is punishable by law.  That applies to all municipalities.  In the Town of Union, people caught shoveling or blowing snow in the road could face a $100 penalty.

In Endicott, there is no parking on the street between 1 a.m. and 6 a.m. unless otherwise indicated by signs.  The restrictions are in effect December 1 through March 31.
