SYRACUSE, N.Y. (AP) — Police say a 20-year-old man has died and a 17-year-old girl is recovering after they were hit by gunfire in separate shootings on Christmas Eve.

Officials say the first shooting occurred around 3:15 p.m. Sunday on Temple Street. When officers arrived on the scene they found a man suffering a gunshot wound to his abdomen.

He was taken to Upstate University Hospital, where he later died of his injuries. His name hasn't been released.

Police say the second shooting occurred around 11:20 p.m. on Hall Avenue. As officers responded to a 911 hang up call, the 17-year-old victim was taken to the same hospital in a private vehicle. The teen told police she had been shot in the cheek while inside a home.
