OSWEGO, N.Y. (AP) — New York state is spending $14 million to repair and upgrade state Route 104 in Oswego County.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced the start of the work on Friday. The project includes repaving and widening a portion of the route, which cuts through the SUNY Oswego campus. It also includes drainage upgrades and safety improvements for pedestrians and bicyclists.

Cuomo, a Democrat, says the route is a "critically important" route for the local economy as it connects the interstate to nearby rail and port facilities.

The work is expected to be completed by the end of next year.
