BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) — Police in Buffalo are investigating four separate New Year's Day shootings that claimed the lives of three people.

Officials say the first shooting occurred around 1 a.m. Sunday, when 22-year-old Xavier Wimes of suburban Cheektowaga was gunned down on a street. The second happened nearby around 6:30 a.m., when police say 25-year-old Alvin McDowell of Buffalo was shot to death while sitting in a parked vehicle.

Detectives say a 30-year-old Buffalo woman was shot and killed about four hours later inside a home. Her name hasn't been released.

Police say a fourth shooting occurred around 1:40 a.m. in a restaurant and left a 24-year-old man in critical condition.

Officials say the shootings weren't random acts, but it hasn't been determined if any of them are connected.

No arrests have been reported.
