8 Of The Oldest Pizzerias In The United States Come From New York State
It's always a terrible feeling when your favorite pizza place closes down for good. Lucky for us across New York State, we are home to 8 of the oldest pizzerias in the United States.
Back in 2017, Thrillist published a list of the oldest pizzerias from across the country. They were able to research 21 restaurants from coast to coast. Here in New York, we were able to snag 8 of those 21. That's a huge honor and privilege
Just because a pizza place has stuck around for a long while doesn't mean its pies are anything special... but mostly it does. We tricked you again, it 100% does! And that's certainly the case with these 21 pizzerias from across the country, all of them continuously in operation since the day they opened so many years ago (we included places that were forced to shut for emergency reasons, but then reopened).
Other states that made the list were New Jersey, Connecticut, California, Ohio, Illinois, Pennsylvania, and Massachusetts. Connecticut also had several on the list.
New York doesn't have the oldest. That title goes to Papa's Tomato Pies which is located in Robbinsville New Jersey. Papa's opened up back in 1912.
Papa's is the oldest, continuously run pizza shop in the country. The Tomato Pie is its creation, and it's still churning them out like it's 1912. And its high-quality pies haven't gone anywhere since then"
Which New York restaurants made the list? Which New York State pizzeria is the oldest? Here are all the New York shoutouts from the list thanks to Thrillist:
