90-Year-Old Driver Causes Major Traffic Emergency

New Hartford, NY (WIBX) - A 90-year-old driver caused a major traffic emergency this afternoon, shutting down portions of Commercial Drive in New Hartford. Police say Audrey Percival accidentally hit the gas pedal instead of the brakes, while pulling into a parking space at Empire Vision.

The car slammed into the corner of the building, after hitting a sign post and a tree stump. Officials say the impact broke the gas line to the building, causing the release of natural gas and the evacuation of employees and customers. Emergency Crews and National Grid are working to maintain safety in the area. Percival was treated for pain in her wrist.
