98-Year-Old Woman Dead Following New Hartford Fire
A New Hartford woman is dead following a house fire on Pearl Street.
On Saturday morning just before 8:30 the Oneida County 911 Center recieved a call reporting smoke and flames visible from a residence. National Grid was on scene to shut off electric and natural gas utilities.
Upon entering the home to battle the blaze, firefighters located a deceased female in the rear of the house near a doorway. The victim was identified as 98-year-old Rye King and she was the only occupant.
The cause of death is pending an autopsy and at this time authorities don't believe the fire to be suspicious. The New Hartford Fire Department was assisted at the scene by Willowvale and Clayville Fire Departments.
Experienced Cause & Origin investigators from the New Hartford Fire and Police Departments, as well as the New York State Office of Fire Prevention and Control have commenced an investigation into the cause of the fire.
