Ten youth hockey teams began competing in a three-day tournament on Friday at the Adirondack Bank Center and the Whitestown Community Center.

The tournament features all ten 15 and Under teams competing in the U.S. Premier Hockey League, including the Utica Jr. Comets.

Over 175 athletes and their families, as well as coaches and college scouts will be spending the weekend in area hotels and dining at local restaurants.

The economic impact of the event is expected surpass $56,000 in lodging, food and beverage, transportation and miscellaneous spending.

Local officials say the tournament is a sneak peek at what will become a consistent weekend of events once the Nexus Center is complete.
