Proving itself the "Graveyard of Champions," Saratoga Race Course was the losing ground for American Pharaoh.

American Pharoah had an early lead and maintain it until the final stretch.  He came in second behind Keen Ice and edged out Frosted, who had trailed him closely during the entire race.

With the Haskell taking place just three weeks ago, trainer Bob Baffert said, "His tank wasn't as full" as it has been in the past.  Of future plans Baffert said he did not know, "I'm not used to being in this position with him."

With his win today Keen Ice jockey Javier Castellano accepts his fifth Travers win, becoming the winningest jockey of that race.

The purse for the Travers stakes soared to $1.6 million with the arrival of American Pharoah, the first Triple Crown champion in 37 years.

Of the four Triple Crown Winners who have run the Travers only one, Whirlaway, won. That race took place in 1941 and Whirlaway now has a race named for him at the Saratoga Race Course.
