One year ago the Villages of Herkimer and Mohawk suffered a tragedy as Kurt Myers allegedly shot and killed 4 people leading to a near 19 hour standoff that ended with him also shooting and killing an FBI K-9 before being killed by police.

The former Glory Days building that Myers was holed up during the standoff is still boarded up, but the boards have been painted with cheerful murals that distract from what happened in the building last year.

Scott Tranter Works at Crazy Otto's Empire Diner in Herkimer and remembers keeping the diner open to help local residents.

Tranter says the community has done what it can to heal after such a tragedy.

Tranter also said one of the victims and his brother were regular customers.

The Village of Herkimer Police will be observing a moment of silence on 3/13/14 at 9:29 a.m. in honor of the victims of last year's tragedy.
