COVERT, N.Y. (AP) — Authorities say two young children have survived a crash involving a pickup truck that left their 41-year-old mother dead in central New York.

The Seneca County Sheriff's Department says Marie Perez was driving north on state Route 89 in the town of Covert when she lost control as she rounded a curve. The vehicle skidded into the southbound lane and was hit by the truck.

Deputies say the Romulus woman was pronounced dead at the scene. Her two children, ages 6 and 5 months, were both in child restraints and survived.

Authorities say the children were taken to Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse where they were treated for injuries.

The driver and two 13-year-old passengers were also hospitalized and treated for injuries.

Authorities say the investigation is ongoing.
