CAMILLUS, N.Y. (AP) — Authorities say they have removed 15 cats and one dog from a dirty, garbage-covered home in central New York.

WSTM-TV reports the Central New York Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals searched the Camillus house Tuesday. Animal cruelty investigator William Pulaski says many of the animals had upper respiratory and eye infections. Pulaski says garbage, feces and urine blanketed the floor of the house.

Authorities believe at least 50 cats have been living in the home. Pulaski says investigators couldn't access the second floor because conditions were too hazardous.

Officials say the owner of the home had previously been arrested for animal cruelty.

An investigation continues.
