The official opening of the Boilermaker Urban Garden took place today with the ceremonial planting of a dwarf cherry tree.

The garden is located behind the Boilermaker office on Court Street in West Utica.

Cathe Bullwinkle is the coordinator of the New York State Department of Health's Brownfield's Project.

She says the project is designed to increase urban gardening space in West Utica.

The garden will be maintained by youth from Oneida County Youth Employment and will feature both vegetables and flowers.

Other partners in the urban garden include Mohawk Valley Youth Build, Rust 2 Green and Cornell Cooperative Extension.
