More than 1,400 Boy Scout leaders from all over the country will be voting on an issue that is capturing the attention of thousands nationwide.

Among the items being voted on at the council meeting in Grapevine, Texas is whether to allow gays to be members of the Boy Scouts of America.  A related issue that is not on the table is whether or not to allow gay scout leaders.  The answer to that is a definitive "no," at least for the time being.

The issue is thought to be a pivotal one for the future of scouting.  Almost three quarters of the boy scout troops nationwide are run by faith-based organizations.  Some say that poses an inherent lack of tolerance for gays in scouts.  Others say that it is because the organizations are religious-oriented that everyone should be included.

Scout leaders are expected to vote by 3:00pm May 23, 2013.
