Four members of the Java Scouts robotics team are raising funds to compete in the First Robotics championships in St. Louis, MI at the end of the month.

Kyle, Liam, Jimi and Leon - also members of Boyscouts Troop 4 of New Hartford - brought their robot 'Powell' to the Keeler in the Morning studios recently. The team, whose motto 'Overly Caffeinated, Highly Prepared' is competing in what you could describe as robot basketball.

Coaches Kirk Evans and FJ Wadnola say the autonomous vehicle cost about $2,000 to build. To continue competition, they're raising money to cover travel and lodging for their five-day stay. For more information on how to support the Java Scouts, visit their Facebook page.
