Recent data released by the Department of Veteran Affairs says the number of homeless women veterans has more than doubled since 2010.

Assemblyman Anthony Brindisi and a Queens lawmaker are co-sponsoring a bill that would establish a study to gather information on the number of homeless women vets in New York State.

The goal is to come up with recommendations and solutions to the problem that would target specific areas of improvement.

Brindisi said he plans to 'hold the state's feet to the fire when it comes to using the data to implement a solution.

"No vet should ever be homeless," Brindisi said. "New York State must do everything it can to combat this growing trend and that battle begins by determining exactly where needs are highest. This bill would accomplish that - by ensuring we have the data to tackle the problem head-on. We can and should do more to help our veterans, especially women with children."
