Congressman Anthony Brindisi has secured funding for a new ambulance to serve rural Madison County.

The Greater Lenox Ambulance Service will receive $124,000 in loan assistance and a $21,000 dollar USDA Rural Development grant to assist with the purchase.

Brindisi says the new ambulance will replace an older unit which has become unreliable for use in rural areas and at highway speeds.

"In our rural communities, response time for ambulances and emergency services are crucial," Brindisi said. "And in these life or death situations, every second counts. This new ambulance will help save lives in rural Madison County. I will never stop fighting for resources to ensure our rural communities have access to health care."

He says the new unit will serve and improve 911 response time in the rural area of Canastota and  provide mutual aid for the Lenox and Lincoln fire departments.
