Making good on a campaign promise, Congressman Anthony Brindisi did not vote for Nancy Pelosi for Speaker of the House.

Brindisi was the first Democrat to not support Pelosi, instead voting for former Vice President Joe Biden.  He was among 15 Democrats who voted for a speaker other than Pelosi or who voted "present."

The California Congresswoman was elected House Speaker.

Brindisi took the oath of office on Thursday as he begins his first term representing New York's 22nd Congressional District.

“I am honored today to take the oath of office to serve the people of New York’s 22nd Congressional District. Upstate New Yorkers put their trust in me, and it is a responsibility that I take very seriously,” said Brindisi.  “It’s time to end the Washington dysfunction and get to work. I’m ready to reach across the aisle and work with members of both parties to ensure quality, affordable health care, create good-paying jobs, and deliver results for the people of this community.”
