Brush Fire In Catskills Damages Bungalows
FALLSBURG, N.Y. (AP) — A state road has been closed in the Catskills as crews battle a brush fire that has damaged more than a dozen bungalows.
The Times Herald-Record of Middletown reports that authorities on Wednesday afternoon closed Route 42 between South Fallsburg and Fallsburg in Sullivan County because of a nearby brush fire.
A county spokesman said 17 unoccupied seasonal houses were up in flames. There were no immediate reports of injuries.
The area about 75 miles north of New York City has a number of summer bungalow colonies.
The county said it will issue an update when the road reopens.
