Officials with the Town of Chenango Ambulance service are exploring their options after stopping service September 30 following decades of operation.

The squad told the Town Board they needed about $5,000 to cover insurance, was short of volunteers and had other costs.  The officials did not detail any firm ideas for restarting their runs in the future. But there had been discussion about having a majority of calls generating income.

After Broome County officials were informed September 30 that the squad had ceased operation, Emergency Services officials said plans were in place to cover ambulance runs to the Town uninterrupted.

The Chenango Ambulance squad just moved into a new, $1 million facility two years ago.
