Clayton Whittemore has been found guilty of second-degree murder in the beating death of his girlfriend, Alexandra Kogut, in September of 2012.

The 22-year old had admitted to the killing but his attorneys were pleading for a manslaughter conviction in lieu of murder, citing the fact that Whittemore had been abused as a child.

Monroe County District Attorney Sandra Doorley says she was happy with the relatively quick verdict.

Doorley talks about advice to young women when they are dating.

Paige Whitney, one of Kogut's high school friends, talked about mixed reactions after hearing the verdict.

Sentencing has been set for July 15, 2014.

Whittemore is facing 25 years to life in prison.
