The SPCA of Central New York is closed after approximately 226 dogs and 26 cats were rescued from a single home.  Ironically the home's owner is the Pompey dog control officer.

MetroSource is quoting sources at the shelter as saying that it will cost the shelter an estimated $30,000 to care for just the dogs alone, but officials do hope to have them available for adoption within the next few weeks.

Animals cruelty charges have been filed against the owner of the property, identified as 61-year old Susan Snavlin, who has worked part-time as the dog control officer in Pompey, New York for more than ten years.

In a story by Syracuse.com's Elizabeth Doran, Snavlin is quoted as saying that she thought that she was giving the animals a better life than they would have had at a shelter and that the seizure of the animals, and the events that ensued, have been her "worst nightmare."

Anyone who wishes to offer assistance to the CNYSPCA should visit the organization's website at: cnyspca.org.
