Cold Weather Ices Plans For Adirondack ‘First Day’ Hikes
ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) — Some of the "First Day" hikes planned for New Year's Day have been cancelled because of the extremely cold weather.
The Department of Environmental Conservation says hikes in the Adirondacks to Poke-O-Moonshine Mountain, Hadley Mountain and Willie Wildlife Marsh are cancelled.
New York State Parks and DEC had planned 75 guided hikes across the state as part of the seventh annual nationwide First Day Hikes program. The agencies advise contacting the participating parks directly to confirm plans.
Each participant will receive a New York State Parks "First Day" string style knapsack, and sticker. There will also be a drawing for an Empire State Pass, which allows free admission to all State Parks and DEC day use areas.
